  • Last week, the National Park Service announced that 400 national parks reported a total of 325.5 million visits in 2023, an increase of 13 million or 4% over 2022. At White Sands National Park, visitation numbers increased nearly 23,000 or 3% over 2022

    At White Sands National Park, visitation numbers increased nearly 23,000 or 3% over 2022. The 729,096 visits in 2023 mark the park’s second highest visitation on record. The park’s highest visitation on record was in 2021, with 782,469 visits.

  • White Sands National Park Announces 2024 Moonlight Hike Schedule

  • White Sands National Park to Host Traditional Jazz Band for September Full Moon Night program.

    In partnership with Western National Parks Association, White Sands National Park is pleased to have the Rio Grande Revelers Dixieland Jazz Band perform at the park's September Full Moon Night program on Friday September 29 at 7:00 pm. The Rio Grande Revelers are a seven-piece band formed in the Spring 2022 based out of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

  • Tourism to White Sands National Park Creates $50,919,000 in Economic Benefits

    A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 705,127 visitors to White Sands National Park in 2022 spent $42,405,000 in communities near the park. That spending supported 572 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $50,919,000.

  • White Sands National Park to Host Live Snake Program at First Full Moon Night Event of 2023

    White Sands National Park to host guest speaker, Bob Myers from the American International Rattlesnake Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico who will present a live snake program for the park's Full Moon Night event on Sunday June 4 at 8:30 pm in the park's natural outdoor amphitheater.

The discovery reveals evidence of human occupation in the Tularosa Basin beginning at least 23,000 years ago, thousands of years earlier than previously thought.

  • Fatality in White Sands National Park

    At approximately 11 pm, July 4, White Sands National Park rangers initiated a search and rescue after locating an unoccupied vehicle in the park. At 4:40 pm, July 5, search and rescue teams discovered a deceased male located off-trail at White Sands National Park.
